Everything that arrives gets read. We are not going to print a response time here, because we would rather not promise one we might miss. If something is urgent, say so in the subject line.

What to put in a bug report

Fennec cannot send us a crash report. It collects nothing and there is nowhere for a report to go, so what you write is genuinely all we have to work from. The more of this you can include, the better the odds we can fix it.

  • What you were doing, step by step, right up to the moment it went wrong.
  • What you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
  • Your iPhone model and iOS version. Settings, then General, then About.
  • The Fennec version, on the app's own About and privacy screen.
  • Whether it happens every time, or happened the once.
  • A screenshot, if there is something to see. Have a look at it for anything private before you send it.

Questions that come up

Where are my memories kept?

On your iPhone, in storage that belongs to Fennec, and nowhere else. Notes, transcripts, titles, tags and places live in a database encrypted with AES-256. Photos and voice notes sit beside it as ordinary files. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to sign in to. The Privacy Policy goes through all of this properly.

What happens if I lose my phone?

The memories go with it. There is no copy on a server, because there is no server. This is the honest cost of the way Fennec is built, and it is why we suggest exporting every so often rather than only once you need it.

How do I export everything?

Settings, then Export everything. Fennec builds a single zip with your notes and transcripts as JSON and Markdown and your photos and voice notes as ordinary files, then hands it to the iPhone share sheet. Save it to Files, mail it to yourself, or put it wherever you keep things.

Can I move to a new phone?

Export on the old phone, then Settings, then Import on the new one, and choose the zip. Memories you already have are skipped rather than duplicated. Do the export before you part with the old phone: once it is gone there is nothing left to export from.

How do I delete everything?

Settings, then Delete all memories. It clears every row in the database and every file on disk, including photos, recordings and earned badges. It cannot be undone, and there is no copy anywhere for anyone to restore from, so export first if there is any chance you want it back.

Why does Fennec download models before I can use it?

Because the transcribing, captioning and writing all happen on your phone instead of on somebody else's server. The models that do that work have to be on the device, and they are large, so they are fetched once from huggingface.co while you set the app up. After that they stay put and the work is offline.

Why does the map need the internet?

Two reasons, and neither of them sends a memory anywhere. The street map is drawn from tiles fetched from Apple as you pan around. And when a memory knows its coordinates, those coordinates go to your iPhone's map service so it can hand back a street and a city to label the pin with. Your notes, photos and recordings are not part of either request.

Is there an Android version?

No. Fennec is an iPhone app, and there is no Android version and no web version to point you at.

Which languages does Fennec speak?

Eighteen: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Chinese, Tagalog, Thai and Malay. You can change the app's language in Settings, and this site's at the bottom of any page.

What does Fennec cost?

Nothing has been decided, and the app is not on the App Store yet. When there is an answer, it will be written out plainly before anything is asked of you.
