Terms of Use

These terms cover the Fennec app for iPhone and this website. They are written in plain language on purpose, because terms you cannot read are not terms you can agree to. Installing or using the app means you are happy with what follows.
What Fennec is
An app you install on your iPhone. It records, transcribes, captions and files the moments you choose to keep, and it does that work on the phone itself. There is no account, no service running behind it, and no server holding your memories. Delete the app and the thing you were using is gone from your phone.
Your memories are yours
Everything you put into Fennec belongs to you. Nothing about installing the app grants anyone a licence to your recordings, your photos or your words. They sit on your phone and they stay there. Export builds a zip of the lot whenever you want one, and Import reads that zip back.
What you may do with the app
Use Fennec on the devices tied to your App Store account, for as long as you like, for whatever you like. What you may not do is copy the app, take it apart, work backwards from it, rent it out, resell it, or ship something built from its parts. Using the app does not transfer ownership of it to you.
Recording responsibly
Record what you are entitled to record. Rules about recording conversations and photographing people differ from one place to the next, and the app cannot know where you are standing or who is in the room with you. That judgement is yours, and so is the responsibility for it.
One phone, one copy
Fennec keeps your memories in one place, on one phone. Lose the phone, break it, or delete the app, and the memories go with it, because there is no copy anywhere else. That is the direct cost of the privacy the app is built around, and we would rather state it than bury it. Export every so often, and keep the zip somewhere you trust.
The writing is a draft, not a record
Transcripts, photo captions, titles and tags are produced by models running on your phone, and models get things wrong. Names come out misspelled, a windy recording comes out garbled, a caption describes something that was never there. Treat them as a helpful first pass at your own memory rather than as a record of fact. You can edit any of it.
No promise that it always works
Fennec is provided as it is. There is no promise that it is free of bugs, that it runs on every iPhone, or that it keeps working after an iOS release it has not met yet. To the fullest extent the law where you live allows, the app comes with no warranty of any kind, and nobody behind it is liable for memories lost, damage caused, or chances missed through using it or being unable to use it. Since your memories live only on your phone, the protection that actually helps is the export, not this paragraph.
Price
Fennec has no price yet, and it is not on the App Store. If that changes, the terms of any payment will be written out plainly before anything at all is asked of you. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell you anything.
Changes to these terms
These terms can change as the app changes. The date at the top says when they last did. Carrying on with Fennec after a change means you are working with the new version.
